SINGAPORE, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's non-oil domestic exports (NODX) contracted by 11.3 percent in August from a year earlier, following the 4.7 percent decline recorded in July, according to data released Wednesday by Enterprise Singapore.
The downturn was led by sharp falls in specialized machinery, food preparations, and petrochemicals, which plunged 29.1 percent, 51.4 percent, and 23.2 percent, respectively. Electronics exports also declined, coming off a high base from last year.
Meanwhile, non-oil re-exports rose 12.3 percent in August, extending the 22.0 percent expansion in July, supported by gains in both electronic and non-electronic products.
Total trade expanded 3.0 percent year-on-year in August, moderating from the 8.2 percent growth seen the previous month. ■
