LONDON, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Liverpool manager Arne Slot has defended the club's summer spending, saying critics have ignored the significant income generated from player sales.
Slot stressed that Liverpool recouped more than 250 million pounds in sales and had spent only 10 million pounds the previous summer.
"There is so much focus on our new signings, especially from pundits that favor some other clubs in the country that cannot stop talking about 450 million pounds," Slot said.
"I repeat, 450 million pounds, 450 million pounds! But they forget about 300 million pounds that we have sold (players) for. So, yes, if we want to strengthen the squad we need to spend that much money."
Slot said Liverpool "did great business," noting all eight signings are aged 25 or under, and argued the club "should get praise" for its strategy.
"I think it is only a compliment that people tell everyone we have spent so much because that tells you the players we brought in are seen as very good players," he added. ■
